Ken Chilton

Please let me introduce myself.  Since my goal here is to see if I can help you, I will highlight what I have done in my career so far. 

I am an accomplished top-level Engineer and C-level Executive with 30+ years of engineering experience in the computer industry, with a strong record of accomplishment and leadership, innovating world-class products and solutions, managing large-scale complex projects, and leading teams, with diverse skills in business, management, and engineering enables providing complete solutions to satisfy customer and business needs, and a named inventor on 40 patents. 

My experience includes EMC Corporation, where I worked in roles as Distinguished Engineer, Chief Scientist, and Lead Technologist; Futurewei Technologies (the US component of Huawei Technologies) as CTO and Technical VP; the Director or Strategic Development at Infinidat Corporation; and the Vice President of VM Manufacturing.  My experience has allowed me to prove my leadership abilities and use my knowledge across all functional areas of technology businesses, uniting organizations to produce world-class products, growing market share and reach, and improving profitability through effective strategy and management. I have demonstrated executive skills to motivate customers and teams at all levels, to shape culture, and provide clear vision and direction. I have had repeated success at providing solutions that identify opportunities and steer organizations to respond to changes in business focus, market expectations, and technology shifts, and exploit the balance between cutting edge innovation and sustainable business operations. I am a problem solver.  I have worked to build an expertise to devise creative solutions to challenging technical, business, customer, and interpersonal problems through a unique combination of natural curiosity and analytical reasoning skills. I develop timely and practical solutions that address root causes to meet requirements and achieve desired results. I thrive in situations that call for results when others say “it can’t be done”.  My contagious enthusiasm gets others motivated to solve the most challenging problems, often leading to “breakthrough” innovations that create new products or markets and enhance the value of the organization. I act in decisive, urgent, and committed ways to achieve results; balance short-term and long-term priorities; encourage and reward creativity; establish high standards of performance and hold myself and others accountable for results.

I am regarded as one of the top technical professionals and the “go-to-guy” when questions arise regarding technology or techniques. I have a broad knowledge of many areas of technology and often I am the person advocating for and creating large technological leaps in product evolution. I have a solid educational background in computer systems, electronics, software, radio, and power combined with experience working on mechanical design, manufacturability, quality assurance, chemistry and materials issues, factory and field processes, ergonomics, and other specific niche areas of expertise. I believe I have an unique ability to manage technology businesses through deep understanding of the scope and challenges of the technology itself, the innovations and constraints needed to bring products to market, the go-to-market requirements, sales techniques for technology customers, and support for products after the sale.

I have a passion and concern that builds customer trust and partnerships.

I have a great number of  interests.  Not only do I love the challenges that engineering and working for businesses create, but I also am involved in other activities.  I am an FCC-licensed Amateur Extra Class radio operator, station W1OT.  I am involved in the local community.  I acted as General Contractor to build our own house, which I also designed, and am often involved in helping others with their home fixit and remodeling plans.  I enjoy woodworking and making furniture.  I make parts in my machine shop.  I repair our own vehicles and help others to learn how to fix theirs.  I like to teach and have led classes in electronics, programming, protocols, big data and AI, making presentations, religion, locksmithing, and safety.  I have provided free tutoring for students in math and calculus, physics,  and chemistry.  I published a book, including designing the font and writing custom software to typeset the pages.
